تم تخصيص محاولة کبيرة للنقاش حول أهمية التعلم عن بعد في توفير بيئة تعليمية مرنة ومتاحة لکل مستوى من مستويات التعليم الرسمي. يقدم مصطلح التعلم عن بعد أساليب ترکز على خلق المزيد من فرص الوصول إلى مؤسسة التعلم والتدريب ، وتحرير العلماء من قيود الزمان والمکان ، وتوفير فرص التعلم القابلة للتکيف للناس.
يعد التعلم عن بعد أحد أسرع مجالات التعليم نموًا ، وقد تم التأکيد بشکل کبير على تأثيره المحتمل على کل طريقة لتقديم التعليم على التحسينات الجديدة في المعلومات والتکنولوجيا.
